The main summer months are upon us and all is well. The lake levels are rising with recent rains, the water has warmed faster than usual, and open fires are permitted. The swimming is great, the fish are biting and the moose are frequenting the weedy bays as part of their favorite summer habitat.
Nearly all the regulations for the BWCAW and the Quetico remain the same as last year, with the exception of the Quetico going barbless for all fishing lures this year. At this point in late June there are permits available for most entry points of the wilderness including quite a few for the Quetico Park, so it is not to late to plan your canoe trip for the upcoming months.
If you are a first time visitor to the area, the famed Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness of northeastern Minnesota and the Quetico Provincial Park of Ontario comprise the largest waterways wilderness in the world. This huge area with its thousands of lakes is dedicated to the paddling canoer. We travel and explore this country as temporary visitors, leaving only our footprints.
Each visit to this area is a wilderness adventure. You encounter a never ending variety of clear water lakes and enjoy nature as it happens - from a feeding moose to a calling loon, fishing for a tasty walleye to listening to the crackle of your campfire, or just enjoying the fading sunset as dusk settles in the Gunflint wilderness.
We invite you to join us for an adventure trip in this vast wilderness area. A sampling of our many guided and unguided trips for people of all ages, abilities and inclinations are described in the pages you can click on from the top or bottom of this page.
Please remember, we do both complete and partial outfitting.
Our unique trips set the standards for adventure in the Boundary Waters country, from our care for the environment, to the thorough planning of your trip and the commitment to excellence we offer based on our 70+ years of outfitting at Gunflint.

Just a quick note to let you know what a fine job you did handling our trip ealier this month. We have used other outfitters in the past and, in comparison, I appreciate your excellent communication with me, upbeat and cheery staff, and the advance invoice to take care of the costs upfront, among the many services you provided us. We will be returning to our beloved BWCA again and we already know which outfitter we'll be using. Thanks again for the great work.
Sincerely, Steve Johnson
