camping at gunflintOver the years Gunflint has grown to become the most comprehensive full service outfitter in the entire Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness support area.  The Kerfoot family came to Gunflint in 1927 and the 3rd generation of the family now leads the operation.

Here at Gunflint we have a complete outfitting company, plus overnight accommodations, adjacent Gunflint Lodge facilities that include a variety of lake side cabins, a gourmet dining room as well as the Red Paddle Bistro and an assortment of activities from fishing to horseback riding to hiking to the Towering Pines Canopy Tour, etc.

Our main outfitting building has a reception and routing area, a gift shop including a good assortment of fishing lures, a food and equipment packing area, and large shower and toilet areas.  Behind the scenes are equipment cleaning areas, a walk in cooler, washers and dryers, and trip packing areas.  There are also racks of PFD vests and paddles for you to pick from.  Outside we have a large parking lot accommodating cars, vans, trailers, and buses.  Adjacent to our vans and trailers are the canoe cleaning and loading areas.

Gunflint LodgeA variety of bunk houses and canoer cabins are nearby.  We have bunk houses suitable for a night before or after your canoe trip (accommodating from 4 to 9 people), and a group of canoer cabins for something more comfortable.  The canoer cabins are nicely paneled and insulated, and have one room with a double and a twin bunk plus a set of bunk beds.  Just bring your own sleeping bag or balnkets and towels. They have heat, a ceiling fan, micro wave and a refrigerator.  There is a screened in porch and an outside picnic table with BBQ grill.  Some guests use one of these cabins as their base of operations, and then take day trips out into the wilderness.

Just below the outfitters building is the masseuse cabin and the main lodge for dining, cocktails and gifts.  Meals are served non-stop from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.  Breakfasts range from homemade oatmeal to blueberry pancakes to huge omelets, etc.  The Bistro menu starts at 11:31a.m. and includes deli style sandwiches, homemade chowder, fresh salads, appetizers, and desserts.  Full dinners are served from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.  Cocktails are served until 11:00 p.m.

On the waterfront you have complimentary use of canoes, kayaks and stand up boards.  There is also a modest swimming beach.  In addition to all that, we have two full time naturalists providing up to 25 activities a week which range from an edibles walk to a Voyageur canoe paddle to candle making to wolf howling, etc.  A new activity recently added is the Towering Pines Canopy Tour- a 2 ½ hour guided experience zipping from platform to platform high up in giant white pine trees.  Sky guides lead each group with trips offered 7 days a week from late May to mid October.  Our Gunflint stable has 16 horses and 3 wranglers, with rides offered every day that range from 1 hour, to day long, to dinner rides.
