Group Getaways

Gunflint Campsite The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is a unique area for Scout Groups, Youth Groups and School Groups to visit and explore. This vast canoeing wilderness is an adventure from start to finish. You might be paddling around a corner one minute and see a moose feeding, or fishing around a beaver house and feel the hit from a nice northern pike. Then there is the quality time around the campfire, setting up your camp, and planning your next days

Nature presents you with a peaceful and undisturbed setting in the Boundary Waters Wilderness to use as you wish -- to be as structured or open as you please.

How much better can it get than to sit around the waters edge in the morning hearing only the wild birds and the wind in the trees, or to sit around the embers of a dying campfire and discuss the days activities.

Scout Groups
50 Miler Trip Awards, Eagle Scout Projects, Troop Service Projects, Merit Badges in Cooking, Camping, Canoeing and more!

This is Scouting country--whether it is in conjunction with Sommer's BSA High Adventure Base or a private outfitting company. A canoe trip in the Boundary Waters Country gets Scouts out into the country camping, cooking, navigating, fishing, exploring and doing all the things they have been training for.

We have hosted Scout groups for over 70 years and have been active scout’s ourselves, so we understand your needs and we know how to outfit you for a first class canoe trip.

To help you in planning a trip we have created several choices. You can click on them above on the left. Additional trips can be planned easily--all we have to know is what you are looking for and we will come back with a proposal very quickly.

One of the advantages of using a private outfitting company is the flexibility we offer. We start and end trips every day, we work with you to plan a trip itinerary that fits the ages and expertise of your scouts, you lead your own trips, trips can be any length of time, we can help you arrange projects or plan merit badge work, and you may bring some of your own gear if you wish.

School Groups

The wilderness is a living laboratory and a work of nature in progress--ever changing, by the seasons and by the years. There are a multitude of opportunities for learning in a variety of disciplines, plus the personal growth, leadership development and confidence building opportunities.

Teachers can make this country into an outdoor classroom in so many ways--it is just a question of what to zero in on and how to package it.

The boreal forest in the highlands of northeastern Minnesota has many species of birds not found in the prairies and hardwood forests of mid America. In our Laurentian highlands, covered with pines, birch, aspen, peat bogs, cedar swamps and balsam thickets, there are over 50 species of resident birds, in addition to the migrations in the spring and fall.

Church Groups

Church Youth Group Canoe Trips, Retreats and Spiritual Development
It is a place for bonding, for leadership, and for personal development. These are some of the values we all hope to share with our youth - as parents, as church leaders and as educators.
