'Becoming a Boundary Waters Family' Canoe Trip Packages

mess of fish walleyeThis family vacation package is a neat way for the family to enjoy the BWCAW wilderness with some camping and canoeing, with moderate challenges. You can enjoy paddling through pretty wilderness lakes while looking for some of our wildlife—beaver, moose, mink, and of course our bald eagles. Then you can select a campsite and set up your tent and collect your firewood. If some of the family enjoy fishing you might try for a walleye or smallmouth bass that could become part of your dinner. Come evening you can sit around the campfire and listen to the wind in the trees, the sounds of the forest, and gaze at the stars that are so bright and numerous. The loons are likely to serenade you just after sunset as life in the forest settles in for the night. This is a great introductory trip to the northwoods with your family, to give you a taste of the wilderness in a comfortable way.

We personally work with you in selecting a wilderness canoe route that meets your desires. We review how much paddling you want to do, how many and how long the portages should be, the species of fish you prefer if you plan to fish, and how many days you want to stay out. Here in the Gunflint area of the BWCA we are blessed with a multitude of canoe routes to work with in finding a combination that works for you.

fish in netIn planning your trip, your first night will be in a rustic bunkhouse here at Gunflint, with a nearby shower house. Then we brief you on your canoe trip, go over your maps, and give you packsacks to put your personal gear in. You are welcome to take an evening paddle if you wish to limber up, either before or after your tasty dinner in the lodge dining room. The next morning after a big breakfast, we load up and take you to your starting point (usually within a 10 to 20 minute drive). Then you get to enjoy your adventure canoe trip in our Boundary Waters wilderness, an area with no roads, homes, or people residents. The area remains pristine and beautiful, just like it has been from the beginning, when the native Americans lived in the area and eventually when the Voyageurs came through in the 1800s.

This package includes Royalex canoes, tents, food and equipment. Your first and last night are in one of our bunkhouses. Two night's dinners are included in the lodge dining room, where we have a nice menu that includes such things as big deli sandwiches, homemade chowders, huge hamburgers, etc. Two breakfasts are also included in the dining room.
